Bio

John W. Dixon is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law with an undergraduate degree in English and Journalism, also from UK. John previously operated his own private practice in Barbourville, Kentucky, where he focused on family, criminal, and general civil matters in Knox, Whitley, and Laurel Counties.

During his time in Barbourville, John worked with many children, adults, and families who had been impacted by domestic abuse of all varieties. John was also a member of the Knox County Drug Court Team, a group appointed to work with local district court judges to help rehabilitate persons accused of drug-related crimes. Additionally, John was active with the local UNITE Coalition, a regional initiative developed to combat drugs and drug-related concerns in Eastern Kentucky. Also during this time, John argued two cases before the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

In 2012, John was appointed Assistant Knox County Attorney. In this role he worked with local school officials as well as middle and high school students to monitor and prevent truancy concerns. Additionally, John was responsible for the Knox County Teen Court Program in which local high school students heard and decided real juvenile court matters.

Immediately before joining EKU, John was a member of the marketing, communications, and public relations team for Bingham McCutchen, a global law firm that was based in Boston and had offices across the United States as well as England and China.

John is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA). Though a licensed attorney, John does not provide legal services for, or on behalf of, Eastern Kentucky University. All inquiries regarding legal issues should be directed to EKU’s Office of University Counsel and Compliance
